We have all been there at one time or the other. Whatever we are working on or doing was not bringing the desired result at the expected time. We drop it and walk away to go do something else. Sometimes the plan was not to walk away, maybe just to take a break and come back later, tomorrow. As it turned out, that tomorrow never came. It became an abandoned project.
It is very easy to give up when progress is not apparent. This is where most of us throw in the towel. We have given it our best shot. We have been patient. We have committed time and resources. The results are not coming through as we expected. Maybe this is not working, or is showing signs it is going to work sometime soon. Continuing seems like a wasted effort. Maybe we are better off doing something else that will give a better return on our effort and resources. So we stop trying and walk away…
Most success stories I have seen, including my personal experiences shows that success comes when you hang in there and see it through to the finish line. It can be very discouraging when you work hard and long without seeing progress. However, this is exactly the wrong time to give up. Where you meet high resistance is usually close to your point breakthrough. This is where you prove without reasonable doubt that you are willing to give it your all. Sadly, most people give up just before their breakthrough. That is why few people make it to the top. Narrow is the way and few that find it.
Have you ever been trapped in traffic in one lane which seems not to be moving, and the moment you finally decide to change lanes, your former lane begins to move, and you find yourself falling behind. The moment you commit to a goal, never ever give up. Don’t even think about it. You have to come to the place of 100% commitment before you commit your time and resources to a project. If you are not ready to see it through to the end, don’t even start. You will litter the landscape with abandoned projects. Quitters never win. If quitting is an option, you are not there yet. Don’t start. Rather than start, wait till you are fully committed, to giving your all. No excuses.
There will be obstacles along the way. You have to go round it, climb it, push through it, re-strategize or whatever you need to do to get over it. Whenever you give up, all your previous efforts go to waste. You also weaken your belief in yourself and your ability to see your goals through to the end. Retreat now becomes an option, an option your readily exercise when the going gets tough. He who fights and runs away lives to run another day. You will keep running for the rest of your life. Stand and fight it out. See it through to the end. Finish what you started.
Wayne Dyer said “It is never crowded along the extra mile”. The reason is simple. Most have given up long before then. When the going gets tough, quitters drop out. It takes a winner to keep holding on when the going slows to a crawl. Dawn comes right after midnight. It is easy to give up before the break of dawn, but if you can hold on and keep your eye on the finish line, you can go through. Never give up
