Our mindset has a much more profound impact on our lives than we give credit for. It determines what we do and ultimately what results we get. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. In an increasingly materialistic world, the focus is shifting more toward results than principles and processes. We seem to be more interested in the how-to, than embodying what we want in order to produce the result. The how-to is the easy part.
Knowing how to does not guarantee that you will do it and persist until you get results. New actions powered by an old mindset soon run out of steam. That is why most New Year Resolutions remain a mirage until a fundamental shift happens on the inside – a new mindset.
Poverty and abundance are all mindsets. It is where you live mentally. These thought patterns create beliefs that birth actions and ultimately result. There is a wide gulf between the poor and rich mindsets. This affects the way you look at money, the way you handle it, and the financial results you get.
The rich do not work for money. They put money to work hard for them so that they don’t have to work hard for money. Because of this mindset, the rich are not primary consumers but producers. They are investors and business owners, not employees (either working for others or working for themselves for a salary). They look at their income as seed or capital, not harvest or profit, hence they invest first before spending, rather than spend first and save/invest leftovers if any. They delay gratification and wait for the returns from their investment before they buy their luxuries. They don’t buy their luxuries with their capital.
The rich mindset involves being rich on the inside – having an abundance mentality, a can-do spirit, confidence that your dreams will come true if you are willing to pay the price, and the belief that where there is a will, there is a way. The rich mindset is not intimidated by the scale of goals and dreams, confident that with focus and persistence and taking one step at a time, it will be achieved. The rich mindset does not entertain excuses but takes responsibility. It is proactive, not reactive. It thrives in teamwork and collaboration, not in solo effort and competition.
It creates new markets rather than focusing on grabbing a bigger share of the existing (and perhaps shrinking) market. The rich embrace life from the standpoint of what they can offer rather than what is in it for them. They understand that the best way to become rich on a sustainable basis is to keep giving continuously. They understand that they can get what they want by helping enough other people get what they want.
The truly rich is always learning, and keeping abreast of current events in their area of interest. They don’t assume they know everything. They realize that to go further, they need to change as one cannot remain the same and produce new results.
The rich understand that you have to become rich on the inside before you manifest on the inside. They understand that you don’t become rich by looking rich on the outside while being poor on the inside. It is the rich mindset that creates wealth. It is the way you look at yourself. It is what you believe about yourself. It is what you believe is possible. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
