We are now halfway through the year, and it is very tempting to look at the lost time, throw your hands up in the air, and throw in the towel. It is not over until you decide to call it a day. The key ingredient is your commitment to that goal. Is it a burning desire or something you wish would happen to you this year?
Often times our goals are unwieldy, much like the 7-point agenda of our dear government. There is a limit to what you can focus on and achieve at a given point in time, especially if you are a one-man team, which most folks are. You need relentless focus to achieve your goals. Bulldog tenacity, keeping at it until you break through.
We need a measure of progress to spur us on to keep on keeping on. If you labor day in day out, week in week out, month in month out, and there is no discernible sign of progress, it is very tempting to give up. This is the reason the focus is not enough, you need the relentless variety, that keeps you at it come rain come shine. To develop this measure of focus, you need a burning desire fueled with passion to propel you forward, something you desire so much that it is always at the back of your mind. It is on your mind the last thing before you go to bed and first thing in the morning.
One way forward is to take a second look at your goals for this year. Be honest with yourself. Don’t lie to yourself; do you really have a burning desire to accomplish this goal this year? Are you ready to commit (to say I do)? Are you ready to say goodbye to the world cup and TV for a season to make this happen? Are you ready to cut loose your friends going nowhere and spend time on making your goals happen? Are you ready to purge your daily schedule of activities leading you nowhere and focus on things that advance you closer to your goal and dreams?
If you are not ready to pay the price, then keep your wish list handy, as you will need it for recycling when it is time for the year 2011 goals. It will remain frozen on paper until you are ready to pay the price, forsake what you need to forsake and focus on what you need to focus on.
You cannot eat your cake and have it. You cannot make an omelet without cracking eggs. You cannot shed weight without regular exercise and cutting down on your calorie intake (unless you guzzle fat-burning chemicals behind your doctor’s back or go for a tummy tuck). You cannot go to heaven unless you are ready to die. You cannot live your life the way you are living and expect new things to happen. If you keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result, someone said you need to see a shrink (not me).
Why are your goals not happening? You have been going about business as usual, hoping for a miracle. You have to CREATE TIME and make the effort to make it happen. We are all handed 24 hours a day. To create time, something just has to give way. If you are not ready to let go, then you have already let go of your goals.
What are you ready to give up to make your goal happen this year?
