It Takes Courage to be You

In your quest for financial freedom, you need the courage to break away from the comfort of following the crowd to be you. If you stick with the crowd, you will get what the crowd has. Financial freedom happens at the top, a level far above where the crowd operates. To get there, you need to break away from the herd and chart your own path to financial freedom.

It does not make sense to expect to run with the crowd and expect a result radically different from what the crowd gets. If you want to predict your future, take a look at the folks you hang out with, the books you read, and the people you listen to. The environment we place ourselves influences our mindset, thoughts, and ultimately actions.

Peer pressure oftentimes makes us do some things that are not convenient, nor make sense. The pain of rejection sometimes makes us spend when we rather not. Oftentimes, we spend money we don’t have, to buy things we don’t need, to impress people we don’t like. It makes no sense if you have a dream, a goal, and a plan. The positive affirmation from the crowd will not move us closer to our dreams. Rather, the more we please the crowd, the further away we drift from our paths. Herd mentality and focusing on your dreams don’t go together.

It takes courage and maturity to walk away from the crowd. There are a lot of benefits that come with tagging along with the crowd. In a crowd, you can remain anonymous, devoid of any responsibility whatsoever. You can put the blame wherever you fancy. When things don’t go as planned, you have people to mourn with, and when things go well, it is fun celebrating together. In a crowd, you can afford to switch off your brains and go with the flow.

Walking away from all the benefits the club offers takes guts. There are also consequences of walking away, you will lose some friends, if not all. Folks around you won’t understand you anymore. Trying to explain often makes matters worse. You are now birds of different feathers.

The truth is that if you truly want to be who you were born to be, if you truly want to break away from the herd and be yourself, you have to move with people of like minds, making the same journey you are embarking on. You have to say a painful goodbye to the crowd and make your way to financial freedom and your dreams. It is a tough choice to make, like choosing between your mother and your wife, but if you have fully made up your mind to leave your aimless past behind, and embrace the future wherein your financial freedom and dreams lie, then making the choice will not be so difficult.

As you celebrate Christmas and New Year, don’t lose yourself in the crowd. Always remember who you are, and who you were born to be, and remain true to yourself. Don’t try to be someone else. If you do not know who you are, your ultimate New Year resolution would be to embark on a journey of self-discovery, to touch base with your inner self. If you do not know who you are, and where you are going, then you are in for a long aimless wandering in the wilderness.

The inner self has to merge with the outer self to make any meaningful progress. Great piece!
