Poverty is a state of the mind, not a state of your finances. This will come as a shock to a lot of folks. This places the blame on our present financial state right at our doorstep, not somewhere else. Accepting blame is not a comfortable place to be. We would rather ship the responsibility somewhere else – the government, economy, what your Mama did, what your Papa did not do, what your uncles and aunties said to derail you, on and on and on…
The fact is, as a man thinketh, so he is. It took me ages to understand this simple truth. I have come to realize that head knowledge is not enough. Until that nugget makes the thousand-mile journey from your head to your heart, it remains a mere cliche you bandy about. Until it drops and settles in your heart, you cannot run with it. If you do not run with it, it is of no use to you.
Poor people think poor thoughts
This is where it actually starts. These predominant thoughts lead to poverty-creating actions which manifest as poverty. What they think is possible is very limited, and these limits are set in their minds. It is a glass ceiling they dare not attempt to break through because it is settled in their minds that it is impossible. Think about it for a second, would you attempt what you consider impossible? Nah! Why bother?
What are the chances of achieving what you don’t attempt? You got it. Nil. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. If you dare to take the shot, you improve your chances of scoring. YOU STAND A CHANCE.
The rich (folks that attained it, or folks that were able to maintain what was handed over to them) think rich thoughts. They think possible. They have experienced possibilities, see worlds few ever get to see, and know that there is more. Their limits, if any, are set higher. Most believe in limitless possibilities.
Your predominant thoughts eventually become your reality
If you believe something is possible, and you think possible all the time, you get your subconscious mind into action, and before long, you will catch yourself gravitating towards action in that direction. If you believe you can live in a certain neighborhood, you will gradually gather the boldness to find out property prices in that neighborhood, and take a walk/jog/drive around the neighborhood.
You know in your mind it is a matter of time. You begin to ask yourself “How can I afford it”. If you ask yourself this question consistently, your mind will begin to provide answers. It will not be overnight, but you will find yourself making progress in that direction.
The house is just an illustration, what about business, fitness level, lifestyle, and spiritual fitness? you name it. Life gives you what you ask for, and the asking is not verbal. It involves belief, goal setting, planning, relentless focus, and execution, one tiny step at a time, each blessed day at a time. If you can gather the momentum to keep going, then the rest, as they say, will become history.
On the other hand, if you believe you cannot afford it, or achieve it, you will NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. If that thing is shoved in your face, you will look the other way. It is not for you. You cannot afford it. If someone offers to take you by the hand, you will snatch off your hand and walk away. Why bother? There are better things to do with your time (especially on TV), than “building castles in the air”. You rule yourself out. You give yourself a technical knockout. The opponent does not need to throw a single punch. You have done the job yourself.
Failure is an inside job
You are not poor because you are broke. You are poor because your mind is broken. Your mind does not have enough materials to process, to nudge your body in the direction of creating abundance, the life you desire.
Poverty is a state of the Mind, not the state of your finances. If you get it right in your mind, your finances will follow suit shortly
